Census counts on paper for 2010

I am almost on the government's side on this one. I am glad that they are sticking to paper for the census instead of using the digital pda version they wished on implementing. Their system had discovered a bunch of bugs and issues that would not have been resolved in time. Props, for once.

However, this is what I do have an issue with. Pretty much, switching back to paper, is going to raise the cost to something in the ballpark of $14.5b to perform the census. That seems just a wee bit too high. Maybe the rising gas prices had something to do with it.
